What if being a good mother didn't mean constantly overriding yourself to meet everyone else's expectations?
Many of us have inherited ideas about how children should behave, how mothers should respond, and what a well-functioning family should look like.
We look for the right answers. We try to make things work. We read the books, follow the advice, and wonder why what works for someone else's family doesn't seem to work for ours.
And somewhere along the way, we can lose touch with ourselves.
But what if there were another way?
What if, instead of searching for the one right way to parent, we learned to become more attuned to ourselves and the children we're raising?
That's what we'll explore together.
Here’s what we'll explore:
Why parenting by the rules doesn't always work
Children are individuals. Mothers are individuals. The needs, rhythms, and ways of engaging with the world within one family can be very different.
We'll look at how generalized parenting advice and inherited expectations can sometimes pull us away from noticing what's actually happening in our own families.
Understanding yourself and your child through Human Design
We’ll take a first look at how Human Design Human Design can offer a new lens for understanding individuality, energy, and differences in the ways we engage with life. No prior knowledge needed.
We'll explore how this perspective can help you become more curious about your child's needs—and your own.
Rather than using Human Design as another set of rules, we'll consider it an invitation to observe, reflect, and understand.
The three foundations of attuned parenting
Attunement is the practice.
Learning to notice what's happening in yourself and your child.
Self-trust is the capacity.
Becoming more able to listen to what you notice, and honor your intuition, rather than relying on outside answers for every decision.
Rhythm is how you live it together.
Bringing your understanding into everyday family life through rest, movement, transitions, connection, and routines that make room for everyone.
One small change to take home
We'll consider a familiar moment in family life and explore how a little more understanding might change the way you approach it.
You'll leave with a fresh perspective and one small experiment to try in your own family.
Testimonial
“I am so grateful I worked with Julie. I’ve done a lot of self-development over the years and the Human Design reading with her touched on areas nothing else had.
It was illuminating and incredibly insightful. I realized things about my nature, my needs and the way my energy works that were spot on, and I’m making changes accordingly.
She’s very connected with the Human Design system and has a natural affinity with it. I really like her down-to-earth approach which makes working with her easy and fun. Highly recommend!”

A little about your host
About Julie: Julie Behnken is a conscious parenting mentor and Human Design guide with a Master’s in Women’s Studies. She’s a certified early childhood specialist who ran a Waldorf-inspired home child care program for more than a decade, an experienced postpartum doula, and a mother with more than 20 years of parenting experience.
She’s especially interested in how we can support children's individuality and development without asking mothers to abandon their own.
Her approach is informed by Human Design, Waldorf-inspired parenting, early childhood education, and the belief that when we change how we parent, we can help change the world. Matriarchy starts within.
